What's the Point?
Throughout human history, population numbers have played a key underlying role in the ability of individuals and communities to thrive. Before we can understand population growth in our own time, we have to understand its role throughout human history.
How We'll Explore It
In this fun, animated sequence, we’ll time travel back to the years 10,000 (or so) bce and follow the journey human population growth has taken. We’ll look at the rise of agriculture, the beginning of cities, the distribution of wealth and power, migration, conquest, technical achievement and the rise of the middle class, Malthusian theory and the medical discoveries that allow us to live longer. Finally, we’ll explore where we are today. With 7.6 billion+ humans on Earth and 49% of them under the age of 25 (the peak reproductive age for our species) we’ll project what Earth’s population might look like should current population growth data of 11 million by 2100 look like.
